D A ANGELO

Goldfinch

A goldfinch with a Luna moth in its beak realised it might have caught the moon. Its quarry seemed to make everything move with it: leaves, flowers, long spindly fingers of twigs. You name it. Even manmade objects left on the path: crowns of beer bottle caps, filter papers curled into cocoons, a plastic water bottle flattened like a pancake. To wield such power would be incredible. You would be a god. The goldfinch could elevate itself to be the leader of the goldfinches. A couple walking by made the bird hide. They were talking about poetry and how the human heart almost presented itself in their open palms after reading a poem on grief. "Now that's real power", the goldfinch thought to itself, flying after the humans to learn more about this thing more valuable than the moon, than Luna moths.
